Vegetables Are The Logical Starting Point For People
To Take Control Of The Food They Eat

Growing vegetables organically is a positive empowering, (and for some) a spiritual experience. Above all it is deeply satisfying, enjoyable, and fundamental to our very existence, with many health benefits. Plants of all types can bring a community together but none quite can succeed like those we eat. However much produce you decide to grow or what ever constraints you have to work with, growing at least some of your own organic vegetables satisfies more than a fundamental desire to eat healthy fresh uncontaminated produce. It is also a way of minimizing our impact on a wider environment.

Many common fruits and vegetables travel for thousands of miles around the world before they reach their final destination. The number of so-called ‘fixed miles’ traveled by supposedly ‘fresh’ produce can be enormous.  Genetically modified seeds created for the rigors of travel and longevity –other than nutritional value and flavor-are the direct failure of worldwide monocultures and the move toward increased globalization.

These growing systems depend almost exclusively on high almost unsustainable inputs of energy, artificial fertilizers and synthetic chemical pesticides.Organic vegetable gardening is not just a matter of replacing chemicals such as synthetic fertilizers with more natural products as it is often simplistically described.

There is a great deal more to that, in both practice and theory. The organic approach recognizes the marvelous complexity of our living world: the detailed and intricate way in which all living organisms are interconnected. It aims to work within the delicate framework in harmony with nature.Gardening using organic practices can offer many benefits:

Healthy Eating - by growing your own organic vegetables, herbs and fruits you can you can be sure you and your family can eat in as healthy and fresh way possible’

Healthy Gardening - in gardening organically you can avoid using pesticides at all so you, your family and visiting wild life can enjoy the garden safely.

Healthy Wildlife - Not surprisingly wildlife flourishes in organic gardens and one would hope that as more and more people abandon chemicals, then the steady decline of wildlife loss will reverse

Healthy Environment - Organic gardening encourages reuse and recycling of items often thrown or burned helping to reduce the waste mountain. It also eliminates the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides making it virtually pollution free.

Healthy Future - The idea that we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors but borrow it from our children is a compelling one. Worldwide pressures are to intensify food production relying on chemical additives and rapidly declining range of crops. The organic movement offers a healthy sustainable alternative view of this future.

Our mission on this website is to provide basic information as well as provide resources for creating healthy gardens and lawns using organic principles and techniques. We intend to incorporate other aspects of gardening to the site in the future which includes fruit, trees, shrubs, flowers and herbs.
