Herbs are easy to maintain, beautiful to look at and in many cases are free from pest and disease problems, Growing them yourself means that you can have fresh supplies on hand when you need them. Growing herbs organically ensures that they are free of pesticides and toxic chemical fertilizers. Growing organic herbs of any kind will increase the diversity of a garden, one of the key principles behind a successful organic system. With such a huge range of herbs to choose from there is almost certainly one for every situation. Herbs can be selected to climb, creep, tumble, form dense carpets or be trained to climb walls. Organic Herbs have a wide variety of uses. Herbs impart an incredible range of flavors to both savory and sweet dishes. They can be added to soups, sauces, stews, salads, meats, pies , breads, or just about anything you eat. Herbs are also an important part of the cosmetic industry finding their way into bath oils, shampoos , crèmes, and lotions. Many old fashioned preparations are simple to make yourself and are much cheaper than buying the products off the shelf.
Most Herbs are relatively easy to grow, Many herbs thrive in a well drained low nutrient soil. If your soil is heavy you can incorporate a low-fertility soil improver. Herbs that need a richer soil may need a medium–fertility soil improver. Maintenance of herbs is relatively easy. Remove flowers from the plants to harvest the maximum quantity and quality of leaves. Pinch off growing tips to encourage bushy growth. Prune perennial herbs each spring. Established clumps of perennial herbs should be divided every 2 to 3 years.. Invasive rigorous herbs such as mint may be best grown in a restrictive area or in containers. If left unchecked these aggressive herbs can overtake a garden .very quickly.
